I think that the main reason why this happening to the students is because they are free and they can do whatever they want to do when they leave there house. Like for example, when they were at home with their families their meals are organized by their families and they do not have any other choice but, when they leave and go to the university they are by their own.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion the perfect way to solve this problem is to make some presentations for the students while there are in the high school so that they will be familiar with what they will challenge when they go to the university and be aware. Also, the parents at home should teach their children how to manage their time and eating during the day like when George Washington University freshman Katie O’Toole said,” she has basically kept up the healthy habits she learned at home.”
In general, I totally agree with this story and with the method they used but in fact, what happened to me is exactly the obverse. When I came here this was the first time for me to be away from my family and this was depressing for me so, I lost some weight because I was not eating too much.
The story is talking the reason why college student become fat when they go to the college. Most of the not have a normal habits and customs, it means the weak up after and eating food after 2 AM. This is a big reason why they become too fat. “By sophomore year, many students are aware of the bad eating habits that are easy to adopt on campus.
ReplyDeleteAnd late-night eating can throw off students' schedules, so they're skipping breakfast” (report NPR, 9 14 2010) It means student they don’t have a good eating habits to support heath. Other reason is student has too much pressure and eating food to release pressure. I think that is true student have to change the life to be a health.
I really agree Saud’s comment. When you at home, the eat hobbies is like your families. Such as, at 8a.m. we eat breakfast, 12p.m. we have dinner, and at 5:30p.m.we have dinner. Everyday should like this. But when people leave home, and live by themselves. They can do whatever they want. Have a late-night eating instead of breakfast.
ReplyDeleteI think the most important thing is freshman should know how to manager themselves. You can eat a lot, but at the same time, you also should do more excises. I don’t think eat is the only thing can gain the weight; even they sleep very or have a bad emotion. For me, have a good emotion to manager yourself is the best way to make you healthy. According to the reading, “I've done exercise classes almost every day," O'Toole says. "I'm really pretty confident that I can keep myself healthy." This fact we can know it’s not only for eating hobbies, but also the way to manager herself.
In fact, it’s not the freshmen’ problem, it’s the problem for people who can manager themselves by a good way. We should have a good hobby in every way, not only the eating. But it’s not my problem, although I also eat a lot and have a bad hobby in eat, I never gain my weight. So I don’t know it is true or false, if I have a friend and he/she has this situation, I’ll tell him/her like this.
In this story, I think the most main reason why freshman gain about five pounds is that no one can suppress them from the all-you-can-eat meal plan and they have more freedom in the dorm life. Much more different from living at home, their meals are not orgainized well like at home. And more worse is that if freshman can't control themselves, five pounds can lead to more weight gain when freshman fall into bad habits. And the late-night eatting is also the cause of weight gain. I totally agree with Saud, and I think it's really neccessary for the school to do something to change the situations. For instance, school can open a class in each friday night to give a presentation to the students who are freshman five pounds. And I think can make some plans to make the freshman five pounds to do some exercises during the daily life.Like the student form George Washington University freshman Katie O’Toole's saying "she has basically kept up the healthy habits she learned at home.”
ReplyDeleteTeachers and parents can also play an expamary role to the freshman five pounds. When a good healthy diet atmosphere formed, It should will serve to effect.
According to the article many of the freshmen college students have in their first year a bad disorder eating habits. During this period it’s very easy for the student to gain extra Wight because of the huge shift in his habits when he lives alone, and be responsible for himself far away from his home. For this student in particular before starting his first year in college, he was in his house with his family where he got supervision from his parent’s especially about food, and being in good health. There is something in this article actually I found it interesting because its kind happened with me when I just got here. It’s such as when a couple or group of roommates starting to stay awake late at night, and having snack or sometimes a dinner in very late hour. I also agree with saud’s and lissa’s comments about the new students should be alert and familiar about this habits to avoid it in the future.
ReplyDeleteThe main point here is why freshmen get weights more than any other students? My opinion exactly as saud’s opinion which is the freedom that students will have when they go to college. They can do and eat whatever they want. Also, “their meals were organized by their families,” just as what saud said. There are some bad eating habits that freshmen usually do. For example, what Barrie Ginsburg said, “Late-night eating was the biggest thing.”
ReplyDeleteI think the best way to solve this problem is giving scales to the freshmen and tell them what the problems that they might face in college. "The freshmen that we gave the scales to didn't gain any weight," said David Levitsky. So, here is a solution.
I really agree with this story but, I noticed that also a lot of freshmen lose weights such as me and Saud. I lost some weight when I came here and many of my friends did, too.

ReplyDeleteMany freshmen suffer from freshman fifteenth. Gaining weight is cannot be held responsible by any single factor. The causes of freshman 15 are: eating fast food, eating during night, and no amount of exercise. There some fact, which some student living far away from his or her family, so that force them to eat a lot especially fast food. Stressors from academic as long as the exam or presentation..etc. As a result, they feel tension, and that what’s make them eat a lot or at night because student sit up in these time. To avoid freshman 15 you should keep hold of points such as, according to NBR, "When people monitor their weight daily, he says, it seems to motivate them to make changes in their eating habits.” I am approving with Saud when he said,” In my opinion the perfect way to solve this problem is to make some presentations.” Because I am living in the dormitory, I see students eating pizza and drinking beer in times of late-night. I think student should know about that before coming to college. I have been elevenths months here, but I didn’t get weight maybe because I usually play soccer and swimming. I agree with the methods particularly that Albers recommends, “Unplugging from technology for a short period every day and exercising daily, even if it's just a walk to clear your mind.”

I agree with Fahad comment. the importance of eating healthily and having good life habit for the future because I think that the college freshman often likes to eat some snacks, at midnight eating some fast food and unhealthy food, and they do not have other choice at college, therefore they just eat a lot of malnutrition of food; moreover they have to reduce their weight. The junk food has destroyed our health. Although the fast food is very delicious, often eating fast food is destructive. Also everyone must control his or her eating habit; otherwise it will increase their weight or lead to malnutrition.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, some students would like to eat food at midnight, and 24 percent of students actually shed a few pounds. Few freshmen have successfully lost weight. If students often eat foods at midnight, they are not able to control their weight. Sometimes teachers should teach them how to manage or control their eating habit. Sherrie Delinsky,a psychologist specializing in eating disorders at McLean Hospital in Boston, said, "The first meal of the day might be at noon or 2 o'clock,”. To sum up, I think that we should eat healthily, and then eat more instead of doing not maintain our healthy body.
In Allison Aubery's article, "Freshman15" discussed increasing weight college freshmen and in his article
ReplyDeleteSusan Albers of the Cleveland Clinic, author of Eating Mindfully mentioned, "Five pounds can lead to more weight gain when students fall into bad habits. So, in my viewpoint agree with her when she said, "Weight gain when students fall into bad habits." Those habits are observing with students when they live off their families especially since first-year college students that gain in weighting is because a lot of bad habits. For example, eating fast food, night eating, drink soda, and chips. On other hand, In the article a question is important to answers that is, "How can first-year students just adjusting to campus life avoid the trap?"
Albers answered, "Students need a lot of strategies for soothing themselves without food. She recommends unplugging from technology for a short period every day and exercising daily, even if it's just a walk to clear your mind. I think that solve to gain weight all people not just college freshman.
Finally, I agree with Lisaakili when she indicated, "It’s not the freshmen’ problem, it’s the problem for people who can manager themselves by a good way. We should have a good hobby in every way, not only the eating."
I agree with Saud. This is happened because the freshmen got free. For instance, when I was a high school student, my study plan was very full and I don’t have too much free time. Other side, my parents put a lot of pressure on me. When we go to the university, I feel free from study pressure and parents’ pressure.
ReplyDeleteOther reason is freshmen who don’t know how to manage their free time. When we in high school, we live with our family. And we follow their living style, like get up at 8 am and have a lunch at 12 am and sleep at 10 pm. We just do what parents tell us to do. So, we don’t have living plan for ourselves. When freshmen come to university, they make their living crazy.
In my opinion, the freshmen should have a living plan. The plan is important, this plan should have how many times excised every week and we must asleep before 12 pm something like that. This plan is a rule. The rule can help us healthy live in the university. I believe when freshmen has a living plan, it will make their university live much better.
